The incumbent will provide legal services to support the Asian Markets business by identifying potential legal issues and providing innovative, commercial, strategic and business -orientated solutions. Typical transactions may include preparation and negotiation of master dealing agreements; Structured derivative transactions involving equity, commodity, credit, interest rate, foreign exchange and other derivatives; Equity loans and transactions; structured investment products including funds and deposits & other markets related transactions, for example involving bonds, mortgage-backed securities, futures, repurchase agreements, brokerage, clearing services and general financing. The role would need to lliaise with relevant legal and financial markets industry forums and associations to enhance currency and proactive nature of legal services provided to internal customers
The role would require you to pprovide strategic high quality legal advice to the Asia business units & other business stakeholders in respect of development of new products globally & also to Asia Markets businesses within Institutional division, including the provision of strategic proactive and innovative legal advice to assist in meeting business objectives. Keeping business apprised of significant legal developments impacting them, managing relationship and monitoring work performed by external lawyers with view to delivery of cost efficient and high quality legal services are other key responsibility areas. As a successful lawyer, you would be expected to be able to influence the business in pursuing the most effective solutions for legal issues & liaise with Operating Risk & Compliance stakeholders to ensure consistent and effective risk management approach across the Asian businesses.
Skills
You would need to possess strong experience in banking and finance and debt capital markets law, including exposure to an experience with financial markets products, documentation and transactions along with Legal or commercial experience in at least one of the following areas: structured products and/or debt capital markets . Good working knowledge of, and experience with, the laws of Singapore, Hong Kong and/or another major Asian jurisdiction is another pre requisite. Ideally you would have worked in a law firm or in a major financial institution located in one of the above mentioned Asian jurisdictions. A demonstrated ability to work under remote legal supervision, and to provide commercial solutions-based legal services, while maintaining robust independence of legal advice with an experience in provision of advice and proactive influence of outcomes would be an added advantage. The role could include travel across Australasian region as required by the business and hence, you would need to be flexible in this regard. Strong verbal & written communication skills are other basic requirements
