Job Description
Market uncertainty has a significant impact on the current and future success of Essent Trading’s merchant strategy and will have a bearing on the profitability of the organisation as a whole. Essent Trading wishes to strengthen its capability to capitalise on market understanding/intelligence by hiring a market analyst/intelligence specialist to join the market analysis team within the Structuring and Analysis Department. 

The primary responsibility of the role will be to perform fundamental analysis, monitor key regulatory and strategic developments of competitors to help identify opportunities in target markets. The role will work closely with the traders, analysts, originators and the various regulatory departments within other Essent divisions. The candidate will therefore be expected to play a leading role in:

• Develop fundamental view on the drivers of the energy markets and work to ensure buy-in from the key commercial stakeholders within Essent trading;
• Liase with the internal regulatory departments and external regulatory bodies (not lobby) to ensure the timely dissemination of relevant regulatory developments in core markets;
• Gain an understanding of the strategies of competitors in the targeted market to help originators and traders focus the strategic direction of the commercial business.
• Creatively identify strategies and opportunities based on fundamental, competitive and regulatory understanding of the markets. Work together with originators, traders and structures to commercialise these opportunities;

The focus will be on European gas, power, emissions, coal and sustainable fuels in a specific region targeted by the Essent Trading merchant strategy. 
The position will formally report to the VP, Market Analysis and will be based in Essent Trading’s offices in Geneva, Switzerland. 
Required Experience

Knowledge:

• Relevant experience and knowledge of the fundamental drivers of the energy markets;
• Previous experience from a financial institution, consultancy or utility is an advantage;

Skills, experience: 
Familiarity with the European energy trading industry is a requirement.

• Well developed numerate ability
• Excellent communication and networking skills;
• Independent and enjoys taking initiative;
• Strong team player with commercial focus;
• Fluent spoken and written English is a must, additional European languages are a strong plus; and
• Strong analytical skills.
