Our client is a leading financial institution with an excellent reputation for service, characterised by in-depth market and product knowledge. Due to expansion in the APAC region, they are seeking an experienced Economist to join the Group Economics Team.
The role will be based in Hong Kong or Singapore and will require travel to the Group's regional offices.
The Economist will hold the spotlight for analysing macroeconomic and market developments across core Asian markets with a strong focus on China, Singapore and South Korea. Knowledge of the Japanese market would be considered highly advantageous. Reporting to the Group Head of Market Economics and working closely with the Trading floor, the Economist will be responsible for producing research reports for both internal and external clients to generate trading ideas. In this front-office oriented role, you will contribute to the company's performance by utilising excellent knowledge of the regional economies with thorough understanding of money market, forex and interest rate products. You must be able to elaborate ideas clearly in both written and oral format to clients and to the press.
You will have a proven track record of analysing the Chinese economy, plus in-depth knowledge of the Singaporean and South Korean markets.
In addition, you will need:
- Proven analytical and report writing skills - Excellent understanding of financial products including government bonds, interest rate swaps, money markets and spot and forward forex - Excellent communication skills in Mandarin and Cantonese are required, other Asian languages (Japanese/Korean) would be a plus
