Position Description: This person will support the IT sourcing initiatives primarily within Distributed Computing category within Morgan Stanley Firmwide. Primary responsibilities require strong vendor and contract negotiations in the areas of hardware, hardware maintenance, and some software licensing experience. As part of these duties, individual will be responsible for working closely with the business units in understanding requirements, identifying alternatives, benchmarking against other similar companies, preparing risk assessments, and MER submissions. Individual will prepare business justification for the acquisition and/or financial request and present to MER committee members.
Skills Required: Primary responsibility for supporting strategic hardware sourcing initiatives in the Distributed Systems category for Morgan Stanley Firmwide. Individual should have experience in the sourcing and negotiation of storage hardware, tape back-up equipment, servers, and desktops, as well as the maintenance service agreements and SLAs for this hardware.
Responsibilities of this individual will include:
• Working closely with engineering and managing certifications processes of all hardware globally • Presenting alternatives to engineers that would reduce cost but not risk performance (i.e. 3rd party memory, etc.) • Knowledge of competitive opportunities within the space and keeping IT/Engineers up to date in those areas • Keeping track of historical costs and tracking historical trending ($/TB over a year, etc.) • Team with Engineering on major initiatives for refresh of data centers, end of life equipment, and new equipment roll-outs • Implementing and maintaining effective communications of global pricing with appropriate audience within the business units • Update Firmwide Sourcing Websites with standards and pricing, as well as news bulletins that communicate updates within their category, etc. • Present pro-active ideas around end of life equipment, reduction of data center space and power constraints - Communicate and present recommendations to clients and senior management, and work with clients to achieve final course of action and completion of agreement • Implement and manage formal benchmarking process with potential third party solution (i.e. Gartner) and/or in house solution (i.e. free websites which provide pricing) • Special projects relating to branch office acquisitions, business specific refreshes, specific bids (i.e. Exchange storage requirements) • Negotiate all hardware maintenance agreements associated in the distributed category • Consolidation of service agreements across regions where the solution is acceptable to IT and cost effective • Monitor vendor performance and manage ongoing vendor relationships, including conformity to contract performance, resolution of payment disputes, activity on critical dates (extensions, renewals, price adjustments, etc.) • Prepare supporting documentation for deals and contracts • Administer contracts in working directly with contracts' group and identifying process improvement solutions to contract admin • Act as the liaison between the business line and legal group
Individual should have a good understanding and knowledgebase/experience of/with the following:
• UNIX/Linux/Win Platforms • Intel/AMD and storage hardware • IT Contract Negotiation and development of contract • Software Licensing on a smaller scale • Preparation of management powerpoint presentations • Excel data sorting and pivot/tabling
