The Team Leader of the Singapore Storage Services Team is responsible for the leadership and efficient daily administration of BGI’s Global Storage and Backup environments, spread across multiple geographic regions (US, Europe and Asia Pacific), during the local time zone. Managing and maintaining service levels across the solutions offered, and direct communication with other regional Storage and Infrastructure team members is also an important aspect of this role.
This person must have excellent client liaison, negotiation, planning and project management skills. The candidate must be capable of working in a global environment across multiple time zones and be able to lead a team of skilled technical individuals with strong, independent points of view.
Key Responsibilities
§ Storage Administration and Production Support - Day-to-day administration of Storage. This includes monitoring the Storage ticket queue, trouble-shooting storage related problems including connectivity issues, storage hardware and software monitoring and maintenance, storage device performance monitoring, capacity management, storage integration with systems, firmware upgrade implementation, and hardware diagnostics.
§ Storage Provisioning – perform SAN and NAS based provisioning and decommissioning tasks across all defined Tiers as part of the global provisioning process
§ Backup and Restore Support – day to day administration and support of the global backup environments, including daily monitoring and backup checks, performing restore requests, ensuring that global backup policies and guidelines are adhered to, and hardware support via liaison with hardware vendors.
§ Periodic Reporting – Collect metrics and produce reports for the Regional Storage Managers
§ Communication - Develop relationships with other Infrastructure groups, including the Network, Server & Database teams. Also work with the Application & Developer teams to ensure maximum availability.
§ Documentation – Document critical processes and procedures to ensure consistency and quality.
§ Follow established procedures and processes to ensure that all Audit and Regulatory requirements are met.
§ Company standards – Follow all the company prescribed standards and procedures, including security and change control.
Technical/Functional Specifications
§ Must have proven experience of strong storage installation and administration experience in a Production environment in a large company (preferably with the Finance Industry) with in depth knowledge of EMC, NetApp and Fibre Switch technologies
§ Must be familiar with NFS & CIFS protocols
§ IP replication & snapshot techniques and technologies
§ ECC (v5.2 or v6.0), Solutions Enabler, NaviSphere Manager, Data OnTap, Celerra Manager and Fabric Manager
§ SRM and/or ILM products
§ Exposure to Veritas NetBackup software (v 5.1 and/or v6.5) in an architectural and administrative role is desirable
§ Backup Technologies, including VTL, replication and deduplication
§ Must have extensive experience in the industry as a Systems Administrator (UNIX, Windows etc).
§ Experience with some of the following is a plus:
1. Shell and/or Perl Scripting
2. Unix System Administration
3. Windows Administration
4. Network Administration
5. Tape Library Hardware, including Quantum, StorageTek and Overland SDLT and LTO-4 tape hardware
§ The position requires maintenance/installation work to be performed outside of business hours including occasional weekends.
§ The position requires the candidate to carry a pager 24/7 when on-call and be in an accessible location to provide support.
§ Strong communication skills are required due to the fact that the candidate would be working with team members located globally. Must be able to express his/her ideas clearly to others. Candidate should be a strong team player but with the ability to work alone as required.
