Under the general supervision of the Head of IT Operations, this position provides first-line and some second-line support for all the business critical applications and the production infrastructure they work on. This includes trading and reconciliation applications as well as their coupled systems. The IT Operations department operate 24 hours a days from Sunday night to Friday night. This position will involve working shifts of 8.5 hours per day.
Responsibilities:
1st and 2nd level support for production applications with escalation to software development, technology teams, end users or third parties as appropriate.
Ensure the continuous operation of PC and Unix servers by providing support for operational problems either raised or predicted.
Ensuring all computer room environments are functioning correctly, with a good knowledge of the following: (UPS, PDU’s, fire suppressant, water leak detection, AC Units).
Running disaster recovery for business critical applications
Monitoring all PC and UNIX servers for housekeeping (disk space, CPU’s, memory, hardware faults, network connectivity)
Installation and configuration of internal, computer and network resources.
Ensure consumables in printers and backup devices are kept to operating levels.
Ensure that all procedures and policies are up to date in the relevant formats and are available for us in all sites.
Ensure backup systems are functioning properly and media is stored securely offsite.
Coordinating all aspects of production environment change control.
Work with Internal and external auditors.
Requirements:
Proven technical ability in UNIX: HP-UX and Solaris, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003
Good working knowledge of Oracle, SQL and SQL Server
Experience in Networking - Ethernet Topology. Structured Cabling, TCP/IP and SNMP
Experience of Remedy Helpdesk and Change Control module would be advantageous.
Knowledge of HP Data Protector backup software would be advantageous.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
ITIL methodology, fundamentals or full service support and delivery qualifications would be advantageous.
Proven ability to share information and work individually or as part of a team to solve problems.
Able to effectively prioritise and organise tasks effectively.
An understanding of the hedge fund industry and terminology.
Ability to translate technical issues into everyday language.
